6:30 PM  Sen. DeMint "Saving Freedom" (NPC Book Event)

Description: Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., will discuss his book, "Saving Freedom," at 6:30 p.m. July 8.

"Saving Freedom" explores the historical failures of socialism and argues that socialistic policies have incrementally worked their way into all areas of American life to create a dependency on big government.

From the book: "Our government has never been further from the principles of freedom. Out of control government spending and unprecedented power grabbing is draining the economic and political will of freedom loving citizens and increasing dependency of generations to come."

This event is open to the public and is free of charge, however, reservations are required at opus@press.org or 202-662-7523. It is a fundraiser for the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, and no outside books will be permitted. DeMint's book will be sold for $27.00, and he will sign copies.

6:30 PM  Solomon "FDR v. Constitution" (NPC Book Event)

Description: FDR Court-packing Book Discussed 6:30 pm July 9

Burt Solomon will discuss "FDR v. The Constitution:The Court-Packing Fight and the Triumph of Democracy" at 6:30 p.m. July 9.

Perhaps the most dramatic story in the long history of the Supreme Court--Franklin Roosevelt's attempt to forcibly change the Court's attitude by imposing six new members--riveted the nation in the spring of 1937, and has special resonance today as we continue to debate the limits of presidential authority and begin the confirmation process for a new judge.
