April 8, 2011 9:00 AM
Location: First Amendment Lounge
In April 1994, the world was shocked at the brutality of genocide in the East African nation of Rwanda were 1,000,000 lives were lost in a span of 100 days.
17 years later, Rwanda has achieved an unwavering amount of success and is working towards an even more promising future. However, over the years, the government of Rwanda and its people have continued to experience wide range of challenges that hinder the planned growth and achievements and most of all the process of reconciliation. One of such challenges is the upsurge of genocide deniers and the spread of their illegitimate ideologies. This fringe group which is getting more vocal, 17 years on, have managed to deceive a number of people in different countries and even converting some into being genocide doubters or deniers.
On April 8th, 2011- the Rwandan community in North America will bring together scholars and researchers in one panel session, to discuss and create awareness of genocide “denialism”? Who are the cultivators of genocide denial in Rwanda? What are their motives? What are its ramifications? What can the general public do in order to curb the growing spread of the inhumane ideology?
