Chris Dodd, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, will speak at a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon on Feb. 15, one week before the Academy Awards. Dodd will discuss the state of the motion picture industry and the challenges it faces in an ever-changing technological landscape.
A former U.S. senator who represented Connecticut in Congress for 36 years, Dodd was appointed to head the Hollywood industry group in March 2011. Since then, he has worked to protect America’s most well-known export against Internet piracy while providing a voice for an industry often criticized – most recently after the Newtown shootings – for pushing violent images on TV, videogames and other media.
Before he “went Hollywood,” Dodd was chairman of the Senate banking committee and was perhaps best known as the co-author of the controversial Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the most sweeping legislative reform in the financial sector since the 1930s. He also helped write the Family and Medical Leave Act and was one of the key supporters of President Obama’s health care reform bill.
The National Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session, ending at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchase by going to the following link.
