Sister Mary Hughes, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, an association that represents about 80% of U.S. Catholic nuns, will talk about the development of the LCWR's current relations with the Vatican, and the group's August 7-11 Assembly, which is dealing with a critical report from the Vatican. Sister Mary is the immediate past president of LCWR and Prioress of the Sisters of St. Dominic.
The Catholic nuns organization has been at odds with the Vatican. Sister Mary will discuss the coalition’s mission, its future role in the church, and controversy with the Vatican.
Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $19 for Press Club members, $30 for guests of members, and $37 for general admission.
