Richard Fenning, CEO of Control Risks, will discuss “The Arab Spring: The challenge for business in North Africa and the Middle East 2012”

DATE: Tuesday, Feb. 7
TIME: 10 a.m.
Place: Lisagor Room, National Press Club
529 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C.

Fenning will discuss how the civil unrest of the Arab Spring has affected the way people do business in North Africa and the Middle East. “Planning for low-probability but high-impact events must be part of any sensible strategic forecast,” he said.

The impact of the Arab Spring will continue to reverberate strongly across the region. Tunisia, Egypt and Libya face highly contested futures, while Syria and Yemen, despite government crackdowns, face ongoing protest activity and potentially escalating violence. Saudi Arabia is likely to be able to deflect reform through generous handouts, while Iran and Iraq, as post-revolutionary and post-war states, are likely to remain insulated from regime change.

Fenning will focus on his recommendations to best navigate the rapidly changing and complex economies. He will examine issues such as security and political risk, and likely scenarios moving forward.
