WHY JOURNALISTS MUST UNDERSTAND RELIGION

Washington Post journalist, author and Washington DC insider, Sally Quinn founded and moderates “On Faith,” an interactive feature on religion from The Washington Post. It features a panel of renowned religious scholars, theologians and thinkers of all faiths and no faith. “On Faith” is the first worldwide, interactive discussion about religion and its impact on global life. Over the last four years, Quinn has pursued a religious education with the same drive and rigor she once gave to politics, leveraging her rolodex from 30 years as a columnist. Participants on “On Faith” include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Karen Armstrong, Martin Marty, Elaine Pagels, Rick Warren, T.D. Jakes, Richard Dawkins and Ingrid Mattson among others. To gain perspective, she traveled to many of the world’s holy sites in Rome, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Tibet, Delhi, Cairo, Ethiopia and Istanbul, and began attending religious services and ceremonies at churches, temples and mosques. Her goal as Moderator of “On Faith” is to educate people about the importance religion plays in every aspect of our lives.
