The Premier Training Venue for Journalists

The mission of the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, the non-profit arm of the National Press Club, is to train communications professionals in a changing media environment, provide scholarships to the next generation of journalists, recognize excellence in journalism, house the records of the history of journalism in the nation’s capital and promote a free press, the cornerstone of a free society.

Located on the 13th floor of the prestigious National Press Club in downtown Washington, D.C., the library is the premier research, reference and education venue for journalists, historians, academics and students in the nation’s capital.

With cutting edge facilities and extensive resources, the library is dedicated to providing timely and accurate information to working journalists and other members of the media community. Highly trained professionals are available to assist with all levels of research, and a collection of recordings and transcripts from past National Press Club events provide a rare opportunity to examine the moments and players that made history.

A fully equipped classroom adjoining the library enables the Eric Friedheim Library to offer critical training programs in electronic journalism for individuals at all skill levels. And a rich schedule of professional development programs focus an unflinching eye on high standards, ethical conduct and best practices in the journalism business.

Regularly scheduled literary events highlight books and authors whose subjects are particularly relevant to the Washington community, and a well-regarded journalism awards and scholarship program recognizes outstanding professional and academic performances.
