An evening at the National Press Club to celebrate excellence, courage in journalism

The National Press Club will celebrate courage and excellence in journalism on Wednesday, July 30, at the annual Journalism Awards Dinner in one of the club’s top events of the year.

The event begins with a reception at 6 p.m. in the Holeman Lounge followed by dinner in the Ballroom at 7 p.m.

"The annual National Press Club Journalism Awards dinner is always a highlight of the year as we honor excellence in journalism and those who have lifted the standards of our profession to new heights,” said NPC president Myron Belkind. “This year’s presentation is even more special, as we will bestow the President’s Award on Pulitzer Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in Afghanistan in April, and her AP colleague, Kathy Gannon, who was wounded in the same attack.”

The President’s Award is presented only on special occasions with the approval of the NPC Board of Governors. An exhibition of Niedringhaus’ photos is on display in the Press Club lobby through August 26 to coincide with the NPC Awards presentation.

Awards will also be presented for some of the best coverage last year of breaking news, political and consumer news, as well as some of the finest work in online journalism, humor, foreign affairs and animal welfare coverage, among many categories. Winners of Press Club scholarships and the John Aubuchon Press Freedom Awards will also be honored.

Everyone attending must have a ticket, they will not be sold at the door.
