NPC Journalism Institute prepares Media Law 101 seminar

Defamation. False light. Actual malice. Those terms likely are familiar to journalists and communicators but for those somewhat removed from their college education, the details of how to avoid such charges may be a distant memory. It's time for a refresher course.

The Professional Development Committee of the National Press Club's Journalism Institute plans to host First Amendment attorney Kevin Goldberg on May 14 at 9:30 a.m. to offer a lesson on media law and how to avoid dangerous pitfalls that could harm an innocent person, end a career or prompt a hefty fine. The event is free to Press Club members and $5 for non-members. The session will take place in the Bloomberg Classroom.

Goldberg, of the firm Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth, has expertise in First Amendment law, the Freedom of Information Act and intellectual property, and is a regular advocate for freedom of speech issues on behalf of news organizations.
