Take the kids to the Club Saturday for story hour with an Irish author, Bubble and Squeak

Irish author and engaging storyteller Lara O’Brien will read from her children’s book, “Chesca and the Spirit of Grace,” at a book event at the National Press Club geared to children ages 6 to 12 on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m.

Top it off with brunch at the Fourth Estate where Chef Susan Delbert has created some kid-friendly Irish fare, including the mysterious Bubble and Squeak, bright green pancakes and Irish oatmeal.

O’Brien will answer questions, tell tales of Ireland’s most famous Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley, and sign books following the reading.

This is a ticketed event and registration is required. Tickets are $5 for NPC members, $10 public. Children are admitted free with an adult. The fee is waived for members who purchase the book.

“Chesca and the Spirit of Grace” is a story of love and land, of winning friendships and having the courage to believe in your dreams. The book relates how 11-year-old Chesca O'Brien, Howth's greatest (and only) Trick Rider, plans to ride Malley, the farm's wild stallion, and put on a show no one will forget -- especially show-jumping champion Mary Murphy. But then her Ma gets sick and Da stops talking, which leaves the farmyard wide open to all kinds of problems.

Inspired by Ireland's most famous Pirate Queen Grace O'Malley, Chesca must take on the might of a developer, rally a town and fight the fight of her life to save all she holds dear. It is a charming Irish tale of talking animals, a magical mountain and galloping sideways.
Consider making a day of it with brunch at the Fourth Estate restaurant. Chef Susan Delbert plans special Irish treats for the occasion.

To reserve for brunch, please call the restaurant at (202) 662-7638. Brunch reservations must be made separately from the event registration.
