Tweeting to Revolution: Panel on Monday to Analyze Egyptian Uprising

A panel discussion on how the digital revolution sparked the popular uprising that ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will be tweeted live.

The discussion, to be held Monday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ballroom, features Riz Khan, host of "The Riz Khan Show" on Al Jazeera English.

Khan, who has reported for BBC and CNN, will give thekeynote address and discuss how Al Jazeera stayed on top of the breaking news in Egypt despite government attempts to shut down the Internet.

Khan's remarks will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Mona Eltahawy, an award-winning columnist and Egypt expert; Natasha Tynes, director of the Middle East program at the International Center for Journalists, and Jeffrey Ghannam, author of the report, "Social Media in the Arab World: Leading up to the Uprisings of 2011," issued by the Center for International Media Assistance.

The ICFJ has organized the event, which is being co-sponsored by the Club's International Correspondents Committee.

ICFJ President Joyce Barnathan will moderate the panel discussion, which will be followed by a reception honoring ICFJ fellows in the International Reporting for Minority Journalists program, sponsored by the Ford Foundation, with additional support from the Brooks and Joan Fortune Family Foundation. The event will conclude at 8:30pm.
