91

The National Press Club Journalism Institute partnered with The Poynter Institute on a forum focused on newsroom culture as it pertains to women, a subject invigorated by the firing of New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson. Panelists included Carolyn Ryan, Washington bureau chief for The New York Times; Susan Goldberg, editor in chief of National Geographic and former president of the American Society of News Editors; Madhulika Sikka, executive editor for NPR News; Rachel Smolkin, managing editor of Politico; Anders Gyllenhaal, vice president of news for McClatchy Newspapers; and Kelly McBride, Poynter’s vice president of academic programs. Jill Geisler, senior faculty for Poynter’s leadership and management division, moderated the discussion.
