Evy Mages has been a staff photographer for the Washingtonian since 2016, and previously shot news and feature photos for newspapers and magazines worldwide, including The Washington Post, Daily News, and Reuters. Mages was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and won numerous awards, including New York Press Photographer of the Year.

Mages compiled two galleries of pandemic-related news photos, with many images showing its effects on people's day-to-day lives. At the Photo Team meeting, Mages will describe how her coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic emerged and evolved, her interactions with subjects in those photos, and reactions of Washingtonian readers to her work.

Her upbringing in Austria is the subject of a New Yorker article in September 2023 and subsequent BBC World Service podcast.

Buy lunch at the Reliable Source and then join the conversation with Mages. The Photo Team will provide audio beginning at 1 p.m. and links to Mages's photos in advance for remote participants.
