Join the Communicators Team for a lunchtime conversation with National Press Club President Lisa Matthews on Thursday, Aug. 5 at noon. Matthews will discuss the goals and objectives she seeks to accomplish during her term as the Club’s leader. She will also talk about her “day job” at the Associated Press, as well as her experience in the public relations field.

The discussion, which will be followed by an opportunity for Q&A with the session’s participants, will be hosted by Communicators Team member Katherine Nicol. She is executive vice president and director of the Health Practice at Hager Sharp, a public relations firm in Washington.

This program is free and for National Press Club members ONLY. Members may register online.

About Lisa Matthews

Lisa Nicole Matthews is the Club's 114th president and is leading the organization as it continues to confront the COVID-19 pandemic and a challenging media environment. So far during her tenure, she has expanded the Club’s efforts to build connections with the community, promote and defend press freedom, and spread news literacy to a broader audience. She is the third person of color to serve as the Club’s president and leads an all-female team of officers, which is a first in the Club’s history.

Lisa has worked for the Associated Press at its Washington bureau during two separate periods in her career for a total of more than 20 years. She is currently the U.S. Video assignment manager. She is also the winner of two Edward R. Murrow Awards for broadcast and digital journalists. In between her stints at the AP, she was vice president at Hager Sharp in Washington. The firm specializes in strategic communication for nonprofits as well as government programs including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Matthews is a graduate of James Madison University.
