The June 3 seizing of former U.S. Marine officer and United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter’s passport while on his way to Russia, not only was a violation of the First and Fourth Amendments, but raises the far more serious issue of the growing danger of a direct conflict between the U.S. and Russia.
Recent attacks on Russia’s early-warning radar systems—which have no direct role in the war in Ukraine, yet play a key role in Russia’s nuclear deterrence system—combined with the increasing American involvement in Ukraine, have caused Russian officials to warn in no uncertain terms of the growing danger of conflict between global superpowers. It is the height of arrogant foolishness to dismiss such concerns as a “bluff,” as so many in Washington, London and other NATO capitals are now doing.
The Schiller Institute is holding an emergency press conference Wednesday, June 12, at 1:00 PM on this topic. A panel of four experts will each make brief presentations, and will then respond to questions.
Speakers include:
- Scott Ritter: former U.N. weapons inspector and U.S. Marine intelligence officer
- Col. (ret.) Richard H. Black: former head of the U.S. Army’s Criminal Law Division at the Pentagon; former State Senator, Virginia
- Ray McGovern: former CIA analyst and co-founder of the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS)
- Helga Zepp-LaRouche: founder of the Schiller Institute
