John Woodrow Cox, whose series for The Washington Post on the impact of gun violence on children in America was named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, will discuss his new book “Children Under Fire: An American Crisis,” at a National Press Club Headliners virtual book event at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12.
According to a study published in the medical journal Pediatrics, firearm-related fatalities are one of the top three causes of death for children 17 and under in the United States, taking more young American lives annually than childhood cancers and other medical conditions. Thousands of children sustain firearm injuries, and an estimated three million children witness a shooting every year in the United States. In Children Under Fire, Cox draws on more than two years of reporting to show the devastating physical and psychological effects of gun violence on America’s children through their eyes, and argues for a new approach to the way we tackle and solve this uniquely American public health crisis.
This one-hour program will stream live on the Club’s website and YouTube Channel as part of the National Press Club’s Virtual headliner series, and is accessible to both the press and general public free-of-charge.
Viewers are invited to submit their questions for Cox in advance or during the live program via email to [email protected].
