National Press Club Communicator members Ed Barks and Edward Segal are returning to the "Lunch and Learn" series on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 12 noon to share their experience in book publishing since they participated in a similar session hosted by the Communicators Team nearly two years ago.

The accomplished writers took separate paths to publish their books. Barks published his independently while Segal went the traditional route and worked with a publishing house. They say determining the best publishing method depends on professional or business intentions and timelines.

Barks and Segal will discuss the merits of independent and traditional publishing and give advice to aspiring authors on getting their books into the marketplace. They will also review the impact of technology and the internet on the publishing industry.

This is an online/virtual program and is free and for National Press Club members ONLY. Members may register online.

Barks is a veteran communications consultant and has independently published four books based on his research on today’s important communications issues. His latest book, “Insider Strategies for the Confident Communicator,” describes the strategies savvy communicators practice every day to achieve their business and public policy goals.

Crisis Ahead: 101 Ways to Prepare for and Bounce Back from Disasters, Scandals, and Other Emergencies" is Seagal’s handbook on how to prepare for, manage, and recover from even the toughest and most devastating crises. It was published by Nicholas Brealey, which is part of the Hachette Book Group, one of the world’s largest publishers of trade and educational books.
