Voice of America chief national correspondent and author Steve Herman will speak at 6 p.m. on June 5 at a National Press Club book event on his latest “Behind the White House Curtain,” which reveals the inner workings of the White House press corps and the relationship between the president and the press.

Herman’s career includes covering the White House during the Trump administration as well as the first eight months of the Biden administration.

In a recent interview, Herman said, “There is always tension in the symbiotic relationship between administration and the media. We need each other, but the goals can diverge. Too close of a relationship is not good for a democracy, but if the relationship gets too distant and hostile that is also unhealthy for properly informing the electorate.”

The book event will explore how journalists can balance that relationship and how the relationship with the White House has evolved over time.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. National Press Club members may purchase tickets for $5. Non-member tickets cost $10. For all ticketing-related questions, please email [email protected]. Tickets must be paid for at the time of purchase.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
