Journalism Institute offers half-day writing workshop, Nov. 1

Pro Tips Workshop

The National Press Club Journalism Institute plans to offer a half-day workshop on Friday, Nov. 1, aimed at developing the skills needed by journalists, non-fiction writers and aspiring writers to take their work to the next level.

The workshop will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and participants will receive free admission to that night's National Press Club Book Fair & Author Night. The workshop costs $50 for Club members and $75 for non-members. Register online.

Participants can create the program that best suits their interests by choosing from concurrent sessions during each hour-long time slot, selecting from courses such as:

  • "How to get people to read what you write -- and then do what you want" with former New York Times op-ed editor Trish Hall, author of “Writing to Persuade”;
  • "Writing tips you’ll use forever" with Los Angeles Times "Column One" editor and writing coach Steve Padilla;
  • "How to publish a best-selling book: Two agents & one author share their tips" with literary agents Gail Ross of the Ross Yoon Agency and Raphael Sagalyn of ICM/Sagalyn, and New York Times best-selling author Lynne Olson.

Additional sessions are listed here.

Following the workshop, participants may attend that evening's 42nd annual Book Fair and Authors Night, a D.C. tradition and fundraiser for the National Press Club Journalism Institute presented in partnership with landmark local bookseller Politics & Prose.
