Advance March 28 screening of Amazon Studio’s upcoming film 'Peterloo,' exclusively for Club members

Amazon Studios is inviting National Press Club members (and one guest) to attend a free screening of the historic documentary "Peterloo" at the Landmark E Street Cinema, 555 11th St. N.W., Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m.

The movie will be followed by a Q&A with director Mike Leigh. The trailer is avalable online.

The documentary is described as "an epic portrayal of the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter's Field in Manchester, England, turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history. The massacre saw British government forces charge into a crowd of more than 60,000 that had gathered to demand political reform and protest against rising levels of poverty. Many protesters were killed and hundreds more injured, sparking a nationwide outcry but also further government suppression. The Peterloo Massacre was a defining moment in British democracy which also played a significant role in the founding of The Guardian newspaper."

To attend please RSVP to [email protected] by Wednesday, March 27. Please note the screening is at E Street Cinema at 555 11th St NW, and not at the Club.
