American Legion Post 20 to host British defense attaché June 21

Rear Admiral Tim Woods of Britain's Royal Navy will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of American Legion Post 20, scheduled for noon Wednesday, June 21, in the Cosgrove Lounge.

Woods is Britain's defense attaché in Washington, and he previously served as defense attaché in Ukraine. He will offer his perspective on common U.S.-U.K. national security issues, ranging from the war in Ukraine to tensions with China.

Woods joined the Royal Navy in 1988 after training at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. His experience includes service in Afghanistan, deployments to the Far East, submarine patrols, and assignments to NATO. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies, where he was awarded the Wellington Prize for Strategic Analysis. He also holds two master's degrees from the University of Cambridge, including a Master of Philosophy in International Relations.

All Club members are invited to this luncheon meeting. Attendees will have an opportunity to order meals on their own just before the guest speaker is introduced.

American Legion Post 20 is affiliated with the NPC, having been founded at the Club in 1919 at the suggestion of famed World War I General John J. Pershing, who was serving in Washington at the time and was an associate member of the Club.
