Another step to Club's normalcy: Library reopens today

The Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library reopens today, Wednesday, June 1, for members of the National Press Club and their guests as the Club seeks to return to normal operations.

The doors will be unlocked when the Club is open. The library can be used for freelance work and research on the available computers.  Members who visit the library will soon have full access to the Bloomberg terminal and other databases and materials available in the library.

Instructions for using the Bloomberg terminal will be posted.  While no librarian is on duty at this time, instructions for contacting a library staff person will be posted for any member seeking research support.

No food or drink should be brought into the library, and members are asked to clean up after themselves on leaving.

Two exhibits are in the library’s display case. One honors Austin Tice, journalist, veteran Marine Corps captain, and Georgetown University graduate, who has been held captive in Syria for a decade. The Club is taking a leading role in keeping his plight before the public. The display includes Austin’s notebooks, awards, and his well-worn Chuck Taylors.

The second exhibit honors Raymond Clapper, a columnist and correspondent who died covering World War II. The Clapper display combines important papers donated by his granddaughter Gail Clapper and special materials on loan from Knight Kiplinger, whose grandfather commissioned the statuette of Raymond Clapper now on display in the lobby outside the library.
