Author to discuss book about Vietnam 40 years after war at Photo Committee meeting, noon Oct. 8

Robert Dodge, a veteran reporter and photojournalist, will speak about his new book, "Vietnam: Forty Years Later," at the next National Press Club Photography Committee meeting at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the Games Room.

All Club members and their guests are welcome. No reservations are required.

Coming on the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, the book is intended to help Americans think of Vietnam as a country -- and a striking one -- rather than a war.

"Dodge tells his story with beautiful color images that land carefully between fine art and documentary," the book's website states. "From the watery and lush farmlands of the Mekong to the lush green rice paddies of the Red River region; from the crystal clear waters and sandy beaches of the coastline to the tropical mountains of the north; from the historic corridors of Hanoi to the bustling business, fashion and media center of Ho Chi Minh City, Dodge provides a captivating cross section of a country that has shaken off its violent past and now appears to be in constant motion towards a new destiny."

Dodge’s photographs have appeared in the Huffington Post, on the cover of Passport, an LGBT travel magazine, and numerous other online venues. Beginning in 2005, he undertook nine photo shooting trips to Vietnam. The result is a fascinating look at a beautiful country that is unknown to most Americans.
