Author discusses book on Pulitizer-sponsored air races, 6:30 p.m. June 25

Author Michael Gough will discuss his book, "The Pulitzer Air Races: American Aviation and Speed Supremacy, 1920-1825," at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in the Sarah McClendon Room at at the National Press Club.

Yes, this is the same Pulitzer family that sponsors the journalism awards.

“From the surprise results of the 1920 race to the triumphant victory in 1925, the reader will be enthralled, " Joe Stamin, editor of e-Golden Pylons online magazine for air-race enthusiasts, said of the book. "Expertly interwoven with the vivid descriptions of the races are the insider and human stories that set this book apart from the usual air racing tales.”

A review in the forthcoming issue of Skyways magazine notes that Gough `“covers in minute detail all the editions of the Pulitzer races, developing the narrative in multiple layers: social, financial, technical, political, historical, etc., providing a great background and context to better understand the time and mindset of those involved. The book is soberly sprinkled with subtle and witty humorous remarks that will make the reader chuckle. I read aviation-related material frequently, but very seldom learn so much and have so much fun in the process.”

The author, currently at work on another book about U.S. aviation history, will discuss his book, answer questions and autograph copies, which will be available for purchase at the event.

Club member Ken Cummins is hosting the talk, and wine and cheese will be served.
