Author Discusses China, Tibet, Dalai Lama, 6:30 pm Feb. 7

Tim Johnson will discuss his new book, “Tragedy in Crimson: How the Dalai Lama Conquered the World but Lost the Battle with China,” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7.

In his book, the former Beijing bureau chief for Knight Ridder and McClatchy details the cat and mouse game involving China and Tibet. Johnson intertwines interviews with monks, nomads, exiled activists, and the Dalai Lama himself in this account of China's suppression of the Tibetan people and their way of life.

The event is free for Club members, $5 for non-members. The book will be available for $27. Johnson will sign copies.

This is a fundraiser for the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library; outside books are not permitted.
