Author to explore federal hiring trends in media affairs, noon May 19

Kathryn Troutman, founder of The Resume Place Inc. and author of "Ten Steps to a Federal Job," will analyze trends in federal hiring for media and public affairs positions at the next meeting of the Communications & Marketing Committee at noon Thursday, May 19, in the Murrow Room.

Troutman will discuss how the lingering effects of the recession combined with the
Obama administration’s reform of the federal hiring process—albeit with a salary freeze—has resulted in more Americans than ever applying for federal positions.

Troutman created the format for the new “federal resume” when the old SF-171 form was eliminated in 1995. She also instructs federal and military career counselors in the federal hiring process.

Following Troutman's presentation, members can attend an informal no-host lunch in The Reliable Source at 12:30 p.m.
