Barbara and John Cochran to speak at NPC Broadcast Legends dinner May 15

Barbara and John Cochran will share stories from their long careers in journalism, as well as their views on the ever-changing media landscape and the various challenges faced by journalism students and professionals today at the next Legends of Broadcasting event Tuesday, May 15.

This dinner conversation, organized by the National Press Club's Broadcasting & Podcasting Team, will take place in the Winners' Room in the Fourth Estate Restaurant, and will be limited to 30 people. Reservations open Friday.

A cash bar reception will begin at 6 p.m. with introductions and dinner following at 6:35. The Cochrans will make remarks and then open the floor to an informal Q&A session to end by 8:30.

Cost of the three-course dinner is $55 for Club members and members of the public. Make reservations online.

Barbara Cochran is the Curtis B. Hurley Chair in Public Affairs Reporting at the Missouri School of Journalism and director of the school's Washington program as well as the president of the board of the National Press Club Journalism Institute. Previously, Cochran served for 12 years as president of the Radio Television Digital News Association and has held executive positions in newspapers, radio, television and the nonprofit sector over the course of her long career. She was the first woman to head a television network's Washington bureau when she was became CBS News' D.C. bureau chief.

Now retired, longtime network television correspondent John Cochran covered every presidential administration from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama and reported overseas on some of the biggest international stories of the 20th century, including the Iranian hostage crisis, the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe and the end of apartheid in South Africa. Cochran spent 21 years at NBC News before joining ABC News in 1994.

When registering, attendees will select one of three entrée choices:

Chicken piccata, brown butter, chive potatoes & spring three-pea sauté;

Skewered grilled shrimp with tropical sesame basmati rice & lime coleslaw;

Zucchini manicotti, three-cheese filling, basil marinara sauce over pasta.
