Big Blue softball team opens season, eyes tenth straight playoff appearance

Big Blue, the National Press Club’s coed softball team, owns a 2-2 record after its first four games in the Metropolitan Media Softball League’s 2017 season. Big Blue has victories over CBS and Atlantic Media and losses to WJLA and Bloomberg.

Weather has been the big story in the league season so far this spring. Games were scheduled to begin on April 22, but rainouts have forced postponements in three of the first four game dates thus far. The MMSL plays doubleheaders on Saturday mornings at fields in Montgomery County, Maryland.

After a week off for Memorial Day, the Club will be back in action at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 at Capitol View/Homewood Park with games against ABC and RealClearPolitics. The Club team has reached the playoffs in each of the past nine seasons, and this year’s squad has more postseason play in mind in 2017. Playoffs are set to take place in early July.

Additional players and fans are always welcome at the games. For more information, contact co-coach Ken Giglio at [email protected].
