Books and Brunch to discuss 2018 Man Booker Prize winner "Milkman" on Saturday

Books and Brunch will discuss "Milkman" by Anna Burns, the first Irish novelist to win the Man Booker Prize, at noon on Saturday, March 16, on the 14th floor mezzanine.

The discussion is open to all National Press Club members and their guests, and reading the book is not required.

The Guardian describes "Milkman" as "a story of the way inaction can have enormous repercussions, in a time when the wrong flag, wrong religion, or even a sunset can be subversive. Told with ferocious energy and sly, wicked humor, 'Milkman' establishes Anna Burns as one of the most consequential voices of our day."

The novel revolves around "middle sister,” who keeps to herself, reading old books because she is not a fan of the period in which she is living. When a "paramilitary" older man takes an unwelcome interest in her, she finds herself powerless to either repel him or break the chain of resulting neighborhood gossip.
