Books and Brunch to discuss Glenn Frankel’s “High Noon," June 16

Books and Brunch will discuss “High Noon: The Hollywood Blacklist and the Making of a Hollywood Classic" by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Frankel at noon Saturday, June 16, in the The Fourth Estate.

National Public Radio calls "High Noon" a sharp social history that reminds us just how common it is for a broken system to abuse its power and cause deep human damage.

At the center of this history are its writer and associate producer, Carl Foreman; director, Fred Zinnemann, and production company head, Stanley Kramer, whose fortunes and friendships would be dictated by the hunt for Hollywood communists.

"High Noon" was too pointedly a political allegory to be anything but a statement about the House Un-American Activities Committee, the industry politics, and the press complicity that made the blacklist possible.

Books and Brunch is open to all National Press Club members and their guests. Lunch may be ordered off the restaurant's menu. It is not mandatory to read the book; there's plenty to learn from hearing the discussion.

If you are able to attend, please contact Fay Iudicello at [email protected] or call her at (703) 989-4503 before noon on June 14. We want to ensure adequate seating and service for all attendees.
