Books and Brunch to discuss Richard Russo's 'Chances Are...'

Richard RussoPlease join National Press Club Books and Brunch for a discussion of "Chances Are..." by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo, at noon on Saturday, Jan. 11, in The Fourth Estate Restaurant.

According to Ron Charles of The Washington Post, "Russo ... has become our senior correspondent on masculinity. No one captures the gruff affection of men or the friction between guys from different classes" any better. Three old friends, all 66 years old, arrive in Martha's Vineyard for a reunion. Despite growing up in different parts of the country, all were classmates at a small Connecticut college in the late '60s and early '70s. While this story is steeped in nostalgia, it is also about the inevitable disruption of nostalgia.

Books and Brunch is open to all Club members and their guests.  Lunch may be ordered off the restaurant's menu. It is not mandatory to have read the book. There is plenty to learn from hearing the discussion.

If you are able to attend, please contact Fay Iudicello at [email protected] or call her at (703) 989-4503 before noon on Thursday, Jan. 9.  We want to assure adequate seating and service for all attendees.
