Books and Brunch to discuss Tommy Orange's "There There," May 18

Please join National Press Club Books and Brunch for a discussion of "There There" by Tommy Orange at noon Saturday, May 18, in the Fourth Estate Restaurant.

Books and Brunch is open to all Club members and their guests. Lunch may be ordered off the restaurant's menu. It is not mandatory to have read the book. There's plenty to learn from hearing the discussion.

If you are able to attend, please contact Fay Iudicello at [email protected] or call her at (703) 989-4503 before noon on Thursday, May 16. We want to assure adequate seating and service for all attendees.

Tommy Orange's acclaimed first novel, "There There," recently won the 2019 PEN/Hemingway Award which recognizes a distinguished first novel. This year's judges called it "a devastating beautiful novel as acutely attuned to our current cultural and political condition as it is to the indelible legacy of violence that brought us here... The breadth and scope of this novel are matched only by the fierce and relentless intelligence that Orange brings to his characters, who despite tragedy, heartbreak and loss, reside in a remarkable world of hard-earned grace."

Orange has won also the National Book Critics Circle(NBCC) John Leonard Prize and the Center for Fiction First Novel Award. "There There" has been a major commercial success selling over 225,000 copies and spending 14 weeks on The New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list.
