Broadcast Committee to meet May 7

Club members interested in multimedia content are invited to attend the next Broadcast Committee meeting from 12-1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in the McClendon Room.A brief guided tour will be given of the Broadcast Operations Center immediately after the meeting.

Here are some questions and answers about the committee:

Q. Does one have to qualify or be invited to attend?
A. All NPC members are invited to attend. Just not all at once since we can fit about 30 people in the McClendon Room. Seriously though, we have a variety of terrific committee members ranging from those who've worked decades in the industry to those who aspire to work in the trade as well as just the curious. We typically meet on the first Thursday of the month at noon.

People of all ages are attending or calling in via teleconference. For those who can't attend weekday meetings, we typically have at least a couple of evening events each year.

Q. What does the committee do?
A. We have a variety of activities ranging from professional development, podcast creation, social events and lively discussions during our meetings. Some attend the meetings because they are interested in networking to obtain employment. Others are interested in organizing events, including our Prime Time series which recently featured Chuck Todd of "Meet The Press." Most members choose to buy lunch at the Club during the meetings.

Q. What do you talk about?
A. We have agendas that include the work of the committee. The discussions are lively and occasionally even humorous. We're always looking to come up with new ideas to engage the members. As chair, I reserve the right to make the occasional wisecrack remark, all in the spirit of collegiality, of course.

Q. Has the committee been around long?
A. The group began as a task force nearly 10 years ago and attained committee status after that. It has continued to grow in terms of participation and the range of activities involved. Given the growth in multimedia, we’re pleased that we can usually expect about two dozen or more people to attend and others to call in.

Q. How can I learn more?
A. Feel free to contact any of the leaders of the committee, including Chair Mark Hamrick ([email protected]); Vice Chairs Adam Konowe ([email protected]) and Michael Freedman ([email protected]); or Board Chair Ken Mellgren ([email protected]), who serves as liaison. If you would prefer to call in, let one of us know and we’ll provide the information.
