Cartoonist Bill Rechin dies

Bill Rechin, a syndicated cartoonist and member of the National Press Club, died Saturday, May 21, of complications from esophageal cancer. He was 80.

For many years, Rechin drew the "Crock" and "Out of Bounds" comic strips for King Features Syndicate. During the renovation of the Press Club in 1983, he boosted the morale of the membership by drawing cartoons lampooning the Club's distress.

His work hung in the Reliable Source for many years, and the Club made him an honorary member for his service.

Rechin also did art work for the National Press Foundation and its "Business Beat" conferences in the 1980s.

He lived in Spotsylvania, Va. His wife, Patricia, died five years ago. He is survived by seven children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His son, Kevin, and son-in-law, Robert Morgan, plan to continue the "Crock" strip.
