Club contest seeks best critical writing about journalism; deadline soon

The National Press Club wants to see your best work from 2019 about journalism and its challenges in the competition for the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism.

The deadline is next Tuesday, June 30. There are awards for print and broadcast.

The award, part of the Club's annual journalism contest, is sponsored by Club member Arthur E. (Ted) Rowse, former staff editor at the Washington Post and U.S. News & World Report. The contest's awards honor excellence in examining the essential role of the news media in a free society. Entries should focus especially on the performance of journalists in the face of opposition and misunderstanding.

The cost of an entry is free for Press Club members and $75 for non-members.

The journalsim contest includes categories for consumer news, politics, online journalism, breaking news, photos, coverage of elderly issues, stories about animals and their well-being, the media and other issues. Details of the awards can be found online.

The awards will be presented later this summer at the Club, depending on conditions. Send your entry in online, or if you prefer, it can be mailed to the Press Club as long as it is postmarked by the deadline.
