Club to honor the best in journalism Aug. 31

The National Press Club will recognize the best in journalism at its 49th annual awards dinner, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 31.

This will be first in-person awards dinner since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Tickets are available here.

Categories include breaking news, Washington regional reporting to humor and online journalism. The winners can be found here.

A new award will be presented, the Nell Minow Award for Cultural Criticism. The award is named for Club member Nell Minow, a longtime movie critic. 

The dinner and awards program begins at 7 p.m. following a reception at 6 p.m.

Besides the awards winners, the dinner will recognize the winners of the journalism scholarships sponsored by the Club's Journalism Institute, and Club President Jen Judson will give the President's Award to the late Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh. She was killed in May while covering the violence in Jenin in the West Bank.

Club members may use a code to get tickets for $65 each. General admission tickets are $75 each. Students/interns can get tickets for $50 each, and must show a valid student ID at the door.

This event is business attire.
