Club journalism contest wants to see your best coverage of animals, their welfare

Please send the National Press Club your best stories from 2019 about animals and their welfare as entries for the Ann Cottrell Free Animal Reporting Award. There are separate awards for broadcast and print stories.

The deadline is June 30, so get  your entries in soon. Send your entry in online, or if you prefer, it can be mailed in to the Club, as long as it is mailed by the deadline. The cost of an entry is free for Press Club members and $75 for non-members.

The prize for the winner is $750.

This award honors excellence in reporting about animals. The award was established by the family of journalist and longtime Club member Ann Cottrell Free, who wrote extensively about animals and their welfare. This prize recognizes serious work by journalists that informs and educates the public about threats facing animals.

The Club contest also includes categories for consumer news, politics, online journalism, breaking news, photos, coverage of elderly issues, humor writing, stories about the media and other issues. Details of the awards can be found here.

The awards will hopefully be presented later this summer at the Press Club, depending on conditions.
