Club member Bill Lord to discuss book on Vietnam War at American Legion Post 20 meeting, Jan. 30

Vietnam veteran and author Bill Lord will be guest speaker at the next meeting of American Legion Post 20, a National Press Club affiliate, at noon Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the McClendon Room.

The speaker portion of the meeting is open to all Club members.

Lord, a Club member, will discuss his recently published book, "50 Years After Vietnam: Lessons and Letters from the War I Hated Fighting."

Lord has been a television news reporter, foreign correspondent and news manager. His final position in his long television news career was general manager of ABC affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington.

Post 20 is a commemorative partner in support of the Department of Defense's 50th anniversary observance of the Vietnam War.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Post 20 and the American Legion. The post was started in 1919 at the suggestion of famed World War I General John "Black Jack" Pershing. Gen. Pershing was serving in Washington following the war and was an associate member of the Club. He was also instrumental in founding the American Legion in 1919.
