Club's American Legion post to hear about Eisenhower memorial, noon June 6

Top officials of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission will discuss plans for the tribute to the 34th U.S. president at a noon meeting of American Legion Post 20 in the McClendon Room on Monday, June 6.

Commission Executive Director Carl Reddel and Deputy Executive Director Victoria Tigwell also will show a documentary on the memorial at the meeting, which will be held on the 72nd anniversary of D-Day. That was the largest amphibious assault in history overseen by Eisenhower as supreme allied commander in Europe during World War II.

The presentation is open to all NPC members and guests.

Also at the meeting will be NPC member John Metelsky, a World War II veteran who was in England on June 6, 1944, as a member of the U.S. Merchant Marine. He will be honored by the post and presented with a Merchant Marine flag. Michael Rodriguez, deputy administrator of the U.S. Maritime Administration, will introduce a documentary on the Merchant Marine's role in the second world war.
