Club’s indie authors dig into digital media by video conference

Anthony Shop, former National Press Club Board of Governors member, shared his expertise of digital media with a virtual meeting of Club independent authors on April 9. Shop encouraged members to determine how they can harness the energy of other, popular figures to spread the word about their own books. For instance, how can authors leverage podcast guest appearances or mentions on an influencer's YouTube channel?

Shop, co-founder of the digital marketing agency Social Driver, illustrated the popularity of digital media by showing a photo of a man walking through busy (pre-coronavirus) Times Square with his head buried in his mobile device, totally ignoring the glittering lights clamoring to gain his attention.

The meeting, one member benefit maintained during the current crisis, was held via video conference. Remote meetings will continue on a stopgap basis until the Club reopens, with the next gathering slated for Thursday, May 14.

The group is open to new attendees. Club members may request an invitation by contacting Ed Barks at [email protected]. In order to be considered, you must indicate your experience with or interest in independent authorship (sometimes called self-publishing) when making your request, and you must be a Club member in good standing. Independent authors manage their own publishing businesses rather than relying on agents and traditional publishing houses, gaining added control of their content and speed to market.
