Communicators plan to look at education and the media July 22

The evolution of the media and education landscapes over the last year and the challenges and opportunities it has created will be the focus of a virtual Lunch and Learn session at noon Thursday, July 22.

Registration is free for all Club members. NPC members must be logged into their online account to access the complimentary admission. Nonmembers may attend this online program for a $15 registration fee, with proceeds going to the Club’s Help The Heroes program, which provides freshly made to-go meals to frontline healthcare workers serving communities of color that are often the most impacted by COVID-19.

Scheduled panelists include Chastity Pratt, education bureau chief at The Wall Street Journal; Caroline Hendrie, executive director of the Education Writers Association; and Delece Smith-Barrow, education editor at Politico. The event will be moderated by NPC Board member Debra Silimeo, the president of The Silimeo Group.

During the session, the panelists plan to review coverage of trending topics such as safely returning students to classrooms after the pandemic, school board politics and critical race theory. They’ll also look at the state of the education beat, including what’s changed in the newsroom and what they’re looking for from sources.

The discussion is to be followed by a question-and-answer session with attendees.
