Corrected election error means one less member elected to Club Board of Governors

The National Press Club miscalculated the number of Board of Governors seats that were up for grabs in last week's election, and therefore one of the candidates previously announced as having been elected to the board did not end up securing a seat.

There were only three three-year terms available, rather than the four originally indicated. Incomplete records were to blame for the mix-up.

The top three vote-getters for the Journalist seats -- Herb JacksonTara Copp and Alisa Parenti -- were elected to the three-year terms. Glenn Marcus, who finished fourth, did not end up with a board seat as originally indicated because there were only three vacancies. The two other candidates, Mushfiqul Fazal and Dan McCue, finished further back.

Marcus has accepted the results and said he will consider running for the board again in the future.

Mark Schoeff Jr. and Poonam Sharma were elected to Journalist board seats for one-year terms, edging out the third candidate, Claude Porsella

Sarah Wire and Kimberly Adams remain on the board with unexpired terms.

There were no problems with the balloting. The error was that there could only be three candidates elected to three-year board terms in this election, rather than the previously announced four. So, the top three vote-getters among all candidates running for these seats were declared elected.

Mike Smith, having garnered the most write-in votes, was elected to the vacant Communicator board seat with a three-year term. No names appeared on the ballot for that board seat because no candidate had submitted enough signatures to qualify for the ballot.

The Club apologizes for the error in the Board election and has taken steps to prevent a repeat.
