Daily dose of learning: Journalism Institute’s Covering Coronavirus newsletter

The daily newsletter comes under this header.

The National Press Club Journalism Institute’s weekday Covering Coronavirus newsletter offers journalists, communicators and the public an in-depth look at how journalists are working to serve their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In two months of publishing, Institute staff have reported more than 65 stories to help journalists with their craft while creating a sense of community for those in the field.

The newsletter contains:

  • original reporting on best practices, how-tos and and spotlights on how newsrooms are working through this crisis

  • top media-related headlines

  • leadership advice from expert Jill Geisler

  • self-care ideas

  • a growing resource toolkit

  • information about upcoming Institute programs.

Some of the more than 700 subscribers say the newsletter provides something other models don’t:

“The approach makes clear this information is intended for me. It also feels like a connection to a community that is of extreme value to me. Especially in these times.”

“Because of this newsletter, I feel more connected to journalists far and wide.”

“It's a reliable source that takes a broad view on the news and news industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic. And it's clearly made by and for journalists.”

The newsletter “provides the human/work side to journalism that journalists need to pay attention too, e.g. themselves and their wellbeing.”
