Do you love freelancing? Join NPC's Freelance Committee

Do you freelance on the side? Would you like to do more freelance work? Are you a full-time freelancer? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the NPC's Freelance Committee wants you.

Our first networking event will be a freelance soiree on Feb. 11, 6 to 7:30 p.m., in the Truman Lounge of the NPC's Reliable Source. The committee provides light appetizers but you pay for your own drinks.

Soirees, held throughout the year, are informal meetings to discuss issues of interest to freelancers. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the topic of our Feb. 11 meeting will be: What do you love about freelancing? We are faced with so many challenges in our freelance business that we sometimes forget about all the advantages. Come prepared to talk about at least one thing you love about freelancing: Freedom to cover topics that really interest you? Working your own hours? Making extra income? Spending the day in your pajamas?

The following week is a Freelance Committee meeting, on Feb. 18, noon to 1 p.m., in the McClendon Room of the NPC's Reliable Source. Come and find out what the committee is planning for 2015, share your ideas and volunteer to work on an event. For those not able to make it to the Club, Sarah Driggs will arrange to have a speaker phone in the room. Just e-mail Sarah at [email protected] to get the number.

The NPC's Freelance Committee supports independent journalists of all types, including part-time, occasional and those committed to running a full-time freelance business. We enhance the freelance community at the National Press Club by hosting networking events. We organize professional development panels and workshops for freelancers and we help freelancers increase their income by promoting Press Club freelancers to editors both within and outside of the Club.

If you want to keep up with committee activities, make sure you are on our e-mail list by sending your name, e-mail address and phone number to Sarah. It’s the best way to make sure you don’t miss out on valuable networking and educational events. For any other questions, email NPC's Committee Chair Tam Harbert at [email protected].
