Emily Whitten: Candidate for communicator on Club board

I am running for the Communicator position on the Board of Governors because Communicators are a key asset of The National Press Club, and I want to ensure that we are well-represented as equal members of the Club, and to focus on how the Club can best benefit us and support our needs. I believe that I am the best candidate for the position, and ask that you vote for me in this election to represent Communicators on the Board.

Communicators and their unique experiences and connections are invaluable when it comes to making The National Press Club a place where the news is made as well as reported, and they should be recognized as such. As a member of both the Book & Author and Young Members Committees, I have used my skills and connections as a Communicator member to bring in a number of exciting events to benefit the Club. Upon election, I would continue to use these skills, as well as my background in journalism, business management, and law, for the benefit of Communicators and the Club, providing a strong voice for Communicator members on the Board, encouraging events geared towards Communicators and towards positive interactions between Communicator and Journalist members, highlighting the contributions made by Communicators, and working towards equal recognition and representation for Communicators within the Club.

I am running in this election with an energetic group of exceptional Club members who work well as a team and want to continue to improve the value, prestige, and contributions of the Club, under the slate name, "Let's Press Ahead." (www.LetsPressAhead.com). Please refer to our website for further information on our combined vision for the bright future of this Club.

This year, we have a rare contested election, with three candidates running for this position. This election is your chance to carefully consider who you want to represent you for the next three years, and to express your choice via your vote. I ask that you do so by voting for me, on or before this Friday, December 9.
