Enter your best diplomatic and foreign policy coverage for an NPC award, deadline May 17

There is still time to enter your best 2020 diplomatic and foreign policy coverage in the National Press Club’s annual journalism contest.

The deadline is May 17. Details on all the awards can be found online.

Named for Edwin M. Hood, a distinguished diplomatic correspondent for The Associated Press and a founding member of the National Press Club, these awards recognize excellence in reporting diplomacy and foreign policy. Entrants must demonstrate an understanding of American foreign policy and how foreign affairs affect those policies.

Entries can be a single article or broadcast or a series of articles or broadcasts (maximum of 5) that will be judged as one unit. Include a letter detailing how and why the piece or series broke fresh ground or how it brought clarity and understanding of foreign policy issues to the U.S. audience.

There are prizes for print and broadcast. Winners in each category get $750. The cost of an entry is free for Press Club members and $75 for non-members.

The contest includes categories for consumer news, politics, online journalism, breaking news, photos, coverage of elderly issues, humor writing, stories about animals and their well-being, the media and other issues. The awards will be presented in an awards event this summer by the National Press Club.
