Exploratory committee meets Jan. 18 to discuss Palisades Parade participation

An exploratory committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Truman Lounge to discuss the National Press Club potentially participating in the July 4 Palisades Parade in D.C.

The one-hour meeting will by the piano in the lounge.

The Palisades Parade is D.C.'s premier Independence Day civic parade, running up MacArthur Blvd, N.W., from Whitehaven Parkway to the Palisades Recreation Center. Check out the 2014 Palisades Parade here.

The meeting welcomes both those interested in participating in the parade and those interested in helping organize Club participation. The meeting is open to everyone, but we are especially interested in people who have previously participated in parades or helped organize participation in parades.

Why participate in the Palisades Parade? Celebrate local D.C. and America, represent the Club and journalism in the local community, meet friendly locals, enjoy beautiful July 4 weather. Most importantly--have fun!

Goals for the first meeting are--

* Identifying participants and organizers
* Brainstorming ideas for the Club "float"
* Brainstorming ideas for crowd giveaways
* Determining potential Club costs of participation
* Set future meeting dates (anticipated once per month)

Please note, Club participation in the Palisades Parade is currently tentative and subject to Board of Governor approval.
