FDA Commissioner at Oct. 6 Luncheon

Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, will speak at a Club luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

Hamburg’s appearance comes at a time of increasing media attention to issues under FDA’s jurisdiction: recent spates of food-borne illness, a congressional hearing about the recall of defective adult Motrin, and the controversy over the safety of genetically altered salmon.

The FDA is charged with protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, the nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation, and by regulating the manufacture, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products.

The luncheon begins at 12:30 pm. Reserve at (202) 662-7501 or [email protected]. Cost of the luncheon is $17 for Club members, $28 for their guests and $35 for the public.

To submit a question in advance, put HAMBURG on the subject line and email to [email protected] before 11:00 am on the day of the luncheon.
