First civilian head of Marine Corps Public Affairs to speak at Sept. 6 meeting of American Legion Post 20

American Legion Post 20 will hear from April Langwell, first civilian chief of the Marine Corps Communication Directorate, at noon Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the McClendon Room.

All Club members are invited. If you can't get there in person, you can watch online at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88013778049?pwd=ZmZ4dlNyQ2hsZ0UxK2lKQ0ZXYm1sdz09. The meeting ID is 880 1377 8049 and the passcode is ALPOST20.

Langwell plans to discuss challenges of the military's public outreach at a time when fewer families have someone serving, and when confidence in public institutions is at a low.

Previously, Langwell served as chief of the public affairs division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. She joined the Senior Executive Service in 2022. Langwell received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Missouri, a master's degree in adult education from Central Michigan University, and a master's degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. She also is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

Since the Club restaurant staff asks that there be one bill for the lunch orders, attendees are asked to bring cash to cover their expense, including tax and gratuity. Members are welcome to bring guests.

American Legion Post 20 is affiliated with the Press Club. It was founded at the suggestion of famed WWI General John J. Pershing, who was an associate member of the Club.
