Strzok was the lead agent in the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server and later spearheaded the FBI probe into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign. He was fired in 2018 from the bureau after the Justice Department's inspector general uncovered text messages he exchanged with an FBI lawyer that were disparaging of President Trump and other public figures.

"Strzok draws on lessons from a long career—from his role in the Russian illegals case that inspired The Americans to his service as lead FBI agent on the Mueller investigation—to construct a devastating account of foreign influence at the highest levels of our government," his publisher said about the book to be published Sept. 8.
